how can organic waste be managed sustainably in a country lacking organized waste collection, and what model could make it work?

C H A L L E N G E

Our client sought to establish an effective model for organic waste management in a country where there is no organized waste collection system, nor a culture of recycling, payment, or responsibility for the management and final disposal of waste. In addition, there were no regulations in place in this area.

We conducted a comprehensive analysis to understand the reality of waste in the country. This process included the evaluation of the existing culture around waste management, the classification and segmentation of waste by type and by generator, as well as an investigation into current practices and possible motivations for adopting more conscious management.

We redesigned the management model based on market standards and specific certifications for an industry segment in which responsible waste management is a prerequisite for market access and compliance with quality regulations. We identified customer pain points and expectations to ensure that the new model met their needs.

We worked closely with the customer to develop an organic waste management model based on payment by volume. This model guarantees traceability and proper disposal of waste, ensuring compliance with environmental best practices.

R E S U L T S

We developed and implemented a business model for organic waste management, managing 20,000 tons per year. This initiative contributed to the reduction of 21,500 tons of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gases (GHG), demonstrating a significant impact on environmental sustainability.
